UX Designer

Location: Wellington

Salary: 110000 to 120000

This role is newly created and forms a key part of a growing product team in a Wellington-based technology company, building a globally used SaaS platform that turns complex data into clear, actionable insights. The product supports authorities and operators worldwide to improve reliability, efficiency, and sustainability – helping move more people, more effectively.

You’ll work end-to-end across discovery, experimentation, and delivery, shaping new features and concepts rather than focusing on BAU or marketing-led design work.

Where you land is alongside product managers and engineers in a highly collaborative, SVPG-aligned product team. The focus is on early-stage problem solving, prototyping, and testing ideas quickly before refining them into high-quality product experiences.
Expect hands-on involvement across:
  • Exploring and validating user problems through experimentation and prototyping
  • Translating complex data into intuitive, usable product experiences
  • Collaborating closely with engineers and product managers to evolve solutions
  • Contributing to and strengthening a shared design system
  • Iterating designs based on evidence, feedback, and testing
Designers are embedded in product teams but supported by a strong internal design community, with regular design rituals, shared learning, and access to dedicated UX research support.
You’re a curious, collaborative product designer who enjoys ambiguity and solving hard problems early – not just polishing UI at the end.
You’ll likely bring:
  • 5+ years’ experience in digital product design (UX + UI)
  • Strong experience with prototyping, concepting, and evaluative testing
  • Comfort working in agile, cross-functional product teams
  • Confidence using tools like Figma and modern design workflows
  • An interest in data-rich products and making complex information clear
  • A pragmatic mindset – balancing craft, speed, and real-world constraints
Backgrounds are intentionally flexible – diversity of thinking is valued over “cookie-cutter” profiles.

Why this role
  • Work on a product used internationally with real-world impact
  • Join a high-trust, high-quality product and design environment
  • Focus on innovation and new capability, not just incremental change
  • Strong design leadership and mature product culture
  • Wellington-based role with no late-night offshore meetings
